Kissell Calls for Iraq Wrap Up
Troops Ready for Next Threat
Tuesday, August 29, 2006
BISCOE, NC – Last year I proposed a one year plan to get us out of Iraq by the end of 2006. Nearly a year has passed and our Administration still has not begun staging our way out. Now in 2006, I propose again that the Democratically elected Iraqi government step up to honor their responsibilities given the freedom our brave men and women in uniform made possible through their sacrifice.
We were given three missions, all accomplished, from searching for WMD's to capturing Saddam Hussein to bringing democracy to the people of Iraq. What's left are people that don't honor borders or formally declared wars. We've got to be smarter than that.
We need our troops home as soon as possible to be able to stand ready for the next phase of our global war on terrorism.
I reissue my challenge now. We staged our way into Iraq in one year, there is no reason we can't stage our way out in one year.
