Former governor joins Kissell on campaign trail
By: Ilin Chen, News 14 Carolina
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Some Fayetteville residents got quite a surprise Tuesday afternoon when they opened their door and found the former governor of North Carolina on their steps.
Jim Hunt was in town, stumping for fellow Democrat Larry Kissell. The duo spent most of the afternoon going from door to door of more than a hundred registered voters in the Eutaw neighborhood.
Kissell is running for a congressional seat in North Carolina's eighth district. He is running against the incumbent, Rep. Robin Hayes.
Kissell and Hunt left flyers and leaflets for those who weren't home. Meanwhile, those who did answer the door got to hear why the former governor is supporting Kissell. They also got to know more about the candidate himself and where he stands on the issues.
"Frankly, a lot of them are just like, 'Who is he?' That's why, a lot of people know who I am, so maybe I can be helpful in introducing him to them, and then he gets a chance to talk to them, and I think they really respond to his message," Hunt said.
Kissell added, "But most importantly, we're listening to people as they tell us their concerns. How can anyone really say they know their district unless they get out and do this?"
Kissell's staff says they've been going door to door since the campaign began, and will continue to do so until the election in a few weeks. Some of the residents that the two men met Tuesday promised to vote for Kissell while others say it just gave them more to think about.
But, we'll see what the outcome is in just a few weeks.
