Robin Hayes to face new bid from Kissell
From Staff Reports
Democrat Larry Kissell, who nearly upset Republican Congressman Robin Hayes two years ago, has entered the race for a rematch.
Kissell, a Biscoe Montgomery school teacher, polled 60,597 votes compared to 60,926 for Hayes in 2006. Kissell has not stopped running since the last election and on Tuesday he formally filed for the 8th congressional seat, which stretches along the border with South Carolina.
In another development, Dean R. Poirier, a N.C. Employment Security Commission attorney from Mount Olive, has filed for the N.C. Appeals Court seat held by Judge James Wynn.
State Rep. Paul "Skip" Stam, an Apex attorney who is House Republican leader, has filed for re-election.
