Kissell, Hayes spar on trade, Iraq
Associated Press
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jobs and the economy were front and center topics as Eighth Congressional District candidates Robin Hayes and Larry Kissell debated today in Charlotte.
Kissell is a Democrat trying to unseat Hayes, the four-term Republican incumbent from Concord. The two taped a half-hour debate at the studios of W-T-V-I television in Charlotte.
Kissell attacked Hayes for his vote last year in favor of the Central American Free Trade Agreement. Kissell says the Eighth District has lost ten (10) thousand manufacturing jobs in recent years
Hayes said he's worked hard to promote economic development and efforts to bring good jobs to the parts of the district that are struggling.
Kissell also says we should have a one-year plan for removing troops from Iraq, while Hayes says we cannot afford to give the enemy a timetable.
