Looking for volunteers

The City of Kannapolis will host the third annual Kannapolis Kares Day Saturday, Sept. 20. Organizers are seeking volunteer civic groups, businesses, or clubs for the day of city-wide community service. Last year, projects for Kannapolis Kares Day included collecting items for the DSS Foster Care Program, Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, and Cooperative Christian Ministry. Projects also included home repair through Habitat's for Humanity of Cabarrus County's "A Brush with Kindness" campaign. In all there were 60 projects with over 3000 participating. Senior Center in Need of Fans

As the sun beats down on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Centers, those inside are doing everything they can to beat the heat... Staying inside is not only more comfortable for the seniors, it's crucial to their health. The senior center is asking area residents to donate new fans to the center to be distributed. Sheriff Warns of Construction Scams

The Anson County Sheriff's Office says it has seen an increase in the number of complaints regarding construction and repair scams. Sheriff Tommy Allen said the problems haven't been "shoddy workmanship or overcharges, which have historically been issues." Now, he said, the problem is "simply no work at all." Individuals who need construction or repairs should make some efforts to make sure those they are dealing with are legitimate, Allen said. (Anson Record - June 11, 2008)

Police warn Seniors against Scams

Albemarle Police Department (APD) is investigating a number of calls made to senior citizens during banking hours where seniors are demanded to give sensitive personal information.

"We want everyone to be aware of this situation and to refrain from giving out any of this personal information," said Ted Smith of APD. (Stanly News and Press– June 1, 2008)


Blood shortage reaches serious level

Richmond County only has about a one day supply of blood available, according to Pam Parks, director of the Richmond County chapter of the American Red Cross.

Plaza Midwood warned about break-ins

Charlotte – Plaza Midwood residents were warned Thursday to be on the lookout for three men in a white, compact car who were suspected in several neighborhood break-ins.

Butterfly Bin accepting Furniture Donations to Fill Homes with Hope

They accept donations of working, gently used household items (non-clothing), and recycle them for free, to those in need of basic necessities. Community Free Clinic ready for more

CONCORD — When economic hard times hit, usually one of the first challenges people face is the cost of medical insurance and the health care it provides. But thanks to the vision and effort of two local physicians 14 years ago, the uninsured and those who cannot afford health care services have a place to turn — the Community Free Clinic in Concord.

Founded in 1994 by family physicians Dr. David Lockhart and Dr. George Liles, the Community Free Clinic provides free medical care, medicine and emergency dental services to low-income and uninsured Cabarrus County residents. Fayetteville neighborhood on guard after attacks

Fayetteville, N.C. — A historic neighborhood in Fayetteville is on guard after at least three muggings since March.

One attack happened along Hillcrest Avenue in the Haymount area late last month when, the victim said, two men jumped him from behind and hit him on the head. Another resident said an attacker hit him with something and broke his leg. Police have charged one man with that assault but have made no other arrests. They have stepped up patrols in the area. ALBEMARLE - United Way of Stanly County and member agency Stanly Community Christian Ministries need help stocking up food for the summertime.
